Residents at Ashwood Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, enjoyed a heartwarming and memorable experience this week when two very special visitors, guinea pigs Mabel and Matilda, spent the afternoon bringing comfort, conversation and plenty of smiles.
The visit took place on 3 March 2026 after a member of staff kindly offered to bring in their guinea pigs for residents to meet. It was an exciting first for the home, which regularly welcomes visiting dogs but had never hosted guinea pigs before.
Throughout the afternoon, residents and staff gathered together as everyone had the opportunity to gently hold and cuddle Mabel and Matilda. The visit sparked lively conversations, with many residents reminiscing about pets they had owned and cared for in years gone by.
One particularly special moment saw Mabel and Matilda taken to visit a resident who is cared for in bed. She was delighted to have them placed on her lap, and laughter filled the room when Mabel decided to explore, happily walking around on the bed. The experience brought a huge smile to her face and created a treasured memory for all involved.
The visit highlights Ashwood Care Home’s ongoing commitment to providing meaningful, engaging experiences that support wellbeing, spark conversation and create joyful shared moments for residents.
