Residents, families and staff at Lower Meadow care home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, came together for a vibrant celebration of Africa Day, honouring African culture, heritage and community through music, food, dance and education.
Africa Day is celebrated annually on 25 May to commemorate the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, now known as the African Union. The day recognises the rich cultures, traditions and achievements of the African continent.
As part of the celebrations, Lower Meadow welcomed guests from In2Cultures, who provided an engaging and educational experience for residents and visitors. Through traditional African music, cultural discussions and storytelling, the team shared valuable insights into African heritage and customs.
In2Cultures also spoke about their ongoing support for African children through charitable initiatives, including raising awareness and contributing to projects that support an African children’s choir. Their passion and dedication left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
The event was made even more special by the enthusiasm and involvement of the Lower Meadow team. Staff proudly showcased their cultural heritage through colourful traditional clothing, music and dance performances, creating a joyful and inclusive atmosphere throughout the home.
Residents and guests enjoyed a variety of entertainment, including traditional singing, dancing and cultural performances. The home’s chef, James, prepared a selection of delicious food inspired by African cuisine, while team members and families joined together to celebrate the occasion.
The celebration also welcomed relatives and local families, including children who took part in the festivities, helping to create a truly intergenerational event that brought people together through shared experiences and cultural appreciation.
Events such as Africa Day provide valuable opportunities for residents to learn about different cultures, strengthen community connections and celebrate the unique backgrounds and experiences of those around them.
Lower Meadow would like to extend its sincere thanks to In2Cultures, residents, families and staff whose enthusiasm and support helped make the celebration such a success.
