Residents, families, staff, and members of the local community came together at Greenbanks Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, on 23rd April 2026 to celebrate St George’s Day with a lively and heartwarming event designed to strengthen community connections and reduce loneliness among residents.
The celebration following discussions during the residents’ monthly meeting. Residents shared their enthusiasm for marking St George’s Day with a special party, with many already aware of the importance of the occasion and eager to take part in the preparations.
Residents played an active role in getting ready for the event, helping to decorate the home with bunting and creating a welcoming atmosphere for visitors. Community members, residents’ families, staff, and local supporters all attended, while the local Elm Church generously donated an enormous selection of cakes and refreshments for everyone to enjoy.
The event created a relaxed and cheerful space where residents, families, neighbours, and staff could mingle, helping to build stronger social connections and meaningful relationships. Visitors enjoyed spending time with residents, sharing conversations, laughter, and plenty of food throughout the day.
Families and visitors praised the day, with one family member commenting how lovely it was to see so many residents joining in and enjoying themselves. She was so inspired by the atmosphere that she offered to volunteer and help at future events.
Community visitors shared how much they enjoy coming to Greenbanks, saying they love seeing the residents happy and always appreciate the warm welcome and generous refreshments.
The sunny weather also allowed families and residents to enjoy time together in the garden, adding to the warm community spirit of the day. Music filled the home as residents and staff danced together, creating many joyful moments and plenty of laughter.
