Resident Creates Handmade Teddies for Her Great-Grandson

Knitted teddies

Evelyn May House, part of the Runwood Homes Group, is celebrating the heart-warming creativity of resident Doreen, whose love for knitting has travelled all the way to New Zealand. Having recently become a great-grandmother to a baby boy living overseas, Doreen set out on a very special mission: to knit a collection of teddies to send across the world with love.

A lifelong knitter, Doreen crafted eight handmade teddies, carefully packaged and posted to her great-grandson to bring him joy from afar. She shared that when she first moved into Evelyn May House, she knitted a teddy for herself, one she proudly keeps in her room as a reminder of the very first one she made there.

With her knitting needles and wool, Doreen pours affection into every stitch. For her, these creations are more than toys; they are a way to remain close to her family despite the miles between them.

“I love knitting, and it makes it even better that I get to make my great-grandson smile with the things I make,” said Doreen.

Home Manager Jo and Lifestyle Coordinator Kerry added:
“It’s lovely to see Doreen keeping in touch with the next generation of her family. Her creativity brings joy not only to her loved ones but to everyone here at Evelyn May House.”

Evelyn May House is proud to celebrate residents like Doreen, whose talents and stories continue to inspire the whole community.
