Blackthorns Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, was delighted to host an extraordinary musical event on 21st November 2025. As part of his heartfelt mission to mark his 50th birthday, acclaimed saxophonist Mike Aremu delivered 50 free performances to older people living in care homes, and Blackthorns proudly hosted his milestone 50th performance.
The event welcomed guests including Karen from Prosper, Edward from ECL, and Sarah Dodsworth, Wellbeing and Dementia Support at the Runwood Homes Group, who joined residents and staff at Blackthorns to celebrate Mike’s musical generosity.
Residents were full of praise for the performance, commenting:
- “It was amazing.”
“Very professional, a true musician!”
Throughout the concert, Mike spoke warmly and compassionately between pieces, expressing deep love, respect, and admiration for the residents, making the performance not just entertaining, but also meaningful.
The atmosphere in the home was joyous, uplifting, and at times emotional, with music bringing people together in a shared moment of celebration. A standout highlight of the afternoon was when Theresa, one of the residents and a former professional singer, joined Mike for a special duet, creating a truly unforgettable moment.
This beautiful event was made possible thanks to Mike’s generous collaboration with Lesley Cruickshank from Prosper, whom he approached with the inspiring idea of offering 50 free concerts to older people in care homes.
Blackthorns is honoured to have been part of this remarkable milestone and thanks Mike Aremu for a performance that touched hearts and created cherished memories for all who attended.
