Residents and staff at Chelmunds Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, recently came together for a rewarding Gardening Day, making the most of the sunny weather to refresh and revitalise the home’s outdoor space.
Held on 28th May 2026, the event saw residents and staff working side by side to prepare tools, plant seeds, and transform the garden into a beautiful and welcoming area for everyone to enjoy throughout the summer months. The day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and a shared sense of accomplishment as the garden began to flourish.
The idea for the gardening session came as residents expressed their enthusiasm to spend more time outdoors as the warmer weather arrived. A collective garden makeover provided the perfect opportunity to channel that excitement into a meaningful and engaging activity.
Resident Geoff shared his enjoyment of the day, saying:
“I love gardening, and being able to do gardening again was really lovely. I can’t wait to see the flowers grow.”
Gardening offers far more than simply enhancing outdoor spaces. The activity provides important therapeutic benefits, promoting physical mobility, sensory stimulation, and a strong sense of pride and ownership over the home environment. It also creates an uplifting outdoor setting where residents can relax, socialise, and enjoy nature together.
The atmosphere throughout the day was calm yet full of energy, with the gentle sounds of conversation and laughter filling the garden as residents supported one another. One of the standout moments came after all the hard work was complete, when everyone came together to enjoy a well-earned cold and refreshing drink.
The Gardening Day at Chelmunds Court highlights the home’s commitment to creating meaningful activities that support wellbeing, encourage social connection, and help residents continue enjoying hobbies they love.
