Chelmunds Court Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes Group, celebrated a truly remarkable occasion on 24th June as much-loved resident Gwen turned 107, surrounded by family, staff, and an incredible show of support from the local community.
To make Gwen’s milestone birthday extra special, the home asked local schools, churches, neighbours, and community members to send birthday cards. The response was overwhelming, with more than 100 cards arriving to help celebrate her special day. Staff decorated Gwen’s room with the cards before she enjoyed a birthday celebration with her family, complete with presents, cake, and plenty of singing.
Kera Budge, Lifestyle Coordinator at Chelmunds Court Care Home, said:
“We celebrate every resident’s birthday, but Gwen’s 107th was something truly special. Seeing how our community came together to make her feel so loved was incredibly heartwarming. The smile on her face when she saw all of her cards is a moment we’ll never forget.”
Gwen’s family said: “It was a very special day, and it was lovely to see how many people wanted to send Gwen a card. It was the best birthday we could have asked for.”
One of the day’s most memorable moments came when Gwen saw the incredible number of birthday cards she had received. Overwhelmed by the kindness shown, she said she felt truly special—a fitting celebration for a resident whose smile and sense of humour bring joy to everyone at Chelmunds.
