Couple at Broomhills care home rekindle an old hobby

Husband and Wife, David and Patricia, are residents at Broomhills care home, in Rochford Essex. The pair spent many years going on cycling holidays together, around England, Wales and Scotland and love chatting with the team about the memorable holidays and how much they enjoyed the hobby.

Both David and Patricia mentioned how much they would like to go cycling again but didn’t think that it would be possible, so the wonderful team at Broomhills decided to take them to Just Ride in Southend, so that they could enjoy their much-loved hobby once again. Just Ride is based at Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre at Garon Park, providing an inclusive, safe and traffic-free experience with specially adapted cycles to cater for a people of all ages and abilities.

David and Patricia had the most wonderful time at Just ride, cycling around the track together and reminiscing to the Just Ride Volunteers about their holidays cycling in Yorkshire and Wales. The team at Just Ride thought the couple were brilliant and even awarded them their Just Ride hero badges, after managing six laps of the racetrack, which equates to a very impressive mile and a half.

Broomhills Home Manager, Leigh Anne Cowling, was thrilled to involve David and Patricia in this experience, and said:

“It was great to be able to see David and Patricia take part in an activity that is so meaningful and personal to them. We make it one of our highest priorities to get to know each and every one of our residents at Broomhills, their passions, hobbies, likes and dislikes and creating unique experiences and activities that reflect these. We know how much David and Patricia love their cycling, so being able to take them to Just Ride was wonderful. It was lovely to see how much they enjoyed themselves and how passionate they were talking to the team about their cycling holidays.”
