Family and friends gathered at Park View care home in Witham to mark the 100th birthday of Edward “Ted” Jarrett on Thursday the 14th of September.
Despite his recent health challenges, the occasion was nothing short of special, as those closest to Ted came together to create cherished memories.
Ted’s family, understanding his preference for a low-key affair, chose to decorate the café bar at Park View care home. The café, a familiar place to Ted, was adorned with subtle decorations, providing comfort and warmth in honour of the centenarian’s milestone. The celebration started at 2pm, with Ted’s closest relatives and friends in attendance.
Diane, the Wellbeing Lead at Park View, played a pivotal role in organising this heart-warming event. The team and residents at Park View all contributed towards his birthday card, a testament to the love for Ted. Alongside Paul, the maintenance man, they transformed the café into a walk down memory lane, decorated with photographs capturing Ted’s life journey.
Throughout the day, the team at Park View made sure to make Ted feel loved and appreciated. Each member of the team visited Ted in his room, singing joyful renditions of “Happy Birthday” and offering their warmest wishes. The collective effort of the Park View community showcased the strong bonds and affection that have developed for Ted.
Diane Anderson, Wellbeing Lead at Park View, said: “Ted came to Park View in 2017 and is one of the longest residents we have here. Ted, in his younger years, was a great follower of the football club, West Ham United. Earlier on this year, we wanted to do something special for Ted by contacting West Ham United early in the year and explained then all about Ted. They sent him a West Ham top with his name on the front and room number on the back. Ted’s quick wit and sense of humour is loved by everyone at Park View and we are so happy to have celebrated this momentous occasion with him.”
